Suffering the loss of a loved one, can alter the life, mind, emotions and future prospect of an individual who experiences a vast void in the aftermath of mortality. Being consumed by, and often temporarily incapacitated by the enormity and finality of circumstances, individual are often in need of the support, guidance and validation of a person who functions independently with an objective and professional approach to offer a means and constructive approach toward enduring and processing the ensuant stages of grief. Counselling offers the following supportive guidance:
- Accepting the reality of the loss requires being supported to validate and acknowledge the source of grief;
- Identifying the trauma and finding individually suited means by which to come to terms with the implications;
- Attaining the confidence and contentedness to be able to remember and personify the deceased’s memory while retaining emotional control;
- Developing a means by which to integrate the memory and endearing presence of the deceased’s heritage into the future in a constructive and minimally challenging manner.
